According to the updated report of ‘non-hydro’ renewable energy sources of Vietnam Energy Magazine – VER (August 2020), the total onshore wind power technical potential of Vietnam is about 217 GW, while the total offshore wind power technical potential is about 160 GW.
Specifically, the total of 217 onshore GW wind power technical potential is divided into the following levels:
1 / High wind speed (> 6m / s) is 24 GW.
2 / Average wind speed (5.5 – 6m / s) is 30 GW.
3 / Low wind speed (4.5 – 5.5m / s) is 163 GW.
Vietnam’s onshore wind power is divided into regions as follow:
Region |
Added PDP (MW) |
Registered investment (MW) |
Northern | ||
North Central | 372 | |
Middle Central | 560 | 2.522 |
Highlands | 286,8 | 10.174 |
South Central | 2.030 | 2.461 |
Southern | 2.099 | 14.775 |
Nationwide | 4.975,8 | 30.304 |
The total offshore wind power technical potential is about 160 GW, of which Quang Ninh (11 GW); Ha Tinh (4.4 GW); Ninh Thuan (25 GW); Binh Thuan (42 GW); Tra Vinh (20 GW).
